Gizem Akın
Hi, I’m Gizem and I am an architect within the Architectural Design team in the Strategic Design Studio at ATÖLYE. I specialise in architectural design and spatial strategy, designing creative bespoke services to meet the needs of the clients. As an architect, I love seeing how design can positively shape people’s lives and influence their behaviour.
Gizem is an experienced architect who graduated in the top three of her architectural design faculty in Istanbul Bilgi University where she developed her interest in architectural design, urban development, graphic design and visualization. She also attended courses on the history of modern architecture, mapping and visual representation as well as Ottoman architecture and coding.
Since she joined ATÖLYE in 2019, Gizem has been working in several service and architectural design projects mainly in Qatar and the UAE. Her role involves thought leadership, business development efforts and promoting the strategy of architectural design projects.
Her previous experience includes working with companies such as Broadway Malyan in London focusing on large-scale projects and various residential plans as an architect and spatial strategist, working with the Critical Design Studio on an urban design competition in Peru, interning at the renovation of the American Hospital in Istanbul at Kreatif Mimarlık as well as joining workshops held by AA (the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London).
Gizem has a strong background of multidisciplinary skills from her leading role within the Model UN and European Youth Parliament conferences. These have had a big impact on developing her systematic thinking and problem solving skills. She likes to take part in projects and work with designs that provide a positive social and environmental impact as well as forming collective ideas and solutions to problems.
