About the Speakers:
Eda Demir continues her career as a content producer and creative producer built on her advertising education and experience. Demir, co-founder of Upcoming—a company that creates and carries out its own special projects in vertical categories such as music, food and decoration—has been working on “Daire” (The Flat) for the last 2.5 years.
After graduating in Advertising Design and Communication at Yeditepe University, she started her advertising career at Ping Digital and continued at Placenta, followed by Twitter Turkey operation at Genart. Having studied Music Business at Berklee College of Music, Demir took a break from advertising and moved to Chicago, where she continued to work as a freelance copywriter and magazine writer. She took part in the team responsible for Turkish music at Shazam. Then she established the Turkish branch of a global music movement, Sofar Sounds, and started the Sofar Istanbul project in 2013. Since 2019, she has been running “Daire” (The Flat) project that produces video / photo content in the fields of decoration, design, modern life and interior architecture, undertaking the titles of producer and director of the project.
Ozan Sakin is the co-founder of Upcoming, (the other co-founder being Eda Demir) a company specializing in the production of qualified content projects. Among its most well known projects in Turkey are; Daire (The Flat)—a lifestyle and decoration Youtube channel, and Sofar Istanbul—the biggest branch of Sofar Sounds, the global flag carrier of house concert series and videos, in 500+ cities around the world.
Born in 1980, having a business degree from Koc University, Sakin began his career as a product manager at L’Oréal, shortly after to be transferred to the agency side at McCann Erickson’s account planning and strategy. Back again on the client side, he continued as a digital advertising manager at Digiturk. Next, when he joined Anadolu Efes (Turkey’s largest alcoholic beverages company) as a digital marketing manager, the complete ban on advertising alcohol took effect, leaving all advertising related titles useless. That’s where he realized countless branded content projects because of (or thanks to) this infamous “prohibition era.” Since 2015, he has been forging new generation branded content and experience projects, mainly focusing on the company’s own productions.
June’s Theme is Home
You can spend a lifetime looking for a sense of home. Sometimes we must leave our home in order to find it. In his poem “Journey Home,” Rabindranath Tagore writes, “The traveler has to knock at every alien door to come to his own.” Home can be a place we belong, home can be found among people we love, home can be carried with you wherever you go. Home can be formed by people creating together. Home is a direction we’re tilted towards. Home is something we have to remake again and again. What home have you built for yourself? What can we do to build a home for each other?
CreativeMornings/Kansas City chapter chose July’s Home theme, and Allison Kerek Williams created the accompanying illustration.
