The new coronavirus outbreak has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). Thus, the global public health crisis and the ensuing travel restrictions have prompted us to reconsider the ways in which we meet. In light of this, we have decided to turn the first episode of Life Lessons into a webinar instead of an in-person gathering. At a time of global uncertainty, we are working to go beyond finding temporary alternatives to physical gatherings and develop innovative and more efficient methods of connection and collaboration.

Life Lessons hosts globally and locally renowned creative leaders from ATÖLYE Academy’s network to share their life stories. Breaking the boundaries of the “one-to-many” talk format, Life Lessons invites the participants to become a part of the story.

The first guest of Life Lessons is Sandy Speicher, the CEO of internationally renowned design and consultancy firm IDEO.

Over the past decade, Sandy built IDEO’s education practice and helped design new educational institutions, platforms, and systems as a creative leader. A designer and educator, she is known for her expertise in designing large-scale systems. Her most iconic work is in Peru, in which she designed the school system of the country from top to bottom. The project is celebrated as a game-changing example of systems design.

Having gained experience as an educator at institutions Stanford’s d.school, Washington University, and Redding Primary School, Sandy is also a member of Khan Academy’s “Thought Leadership Council.” Sandy currently provides strategic consultancy to Pearson and often talks about the value design thinking adds to educators and leaders.
